Office Administration and ICT Skills

Over the past four years Co-operation Fingal, in partnership with FAS, has successfully delivered training to long-term unemployed people in the North Fingal area. Participants achieved FETAC certification in various modules, including Retail Sales, Computer Applications, Communications, Manual and Computerised accounts, as well as ECDL. These skills allowed several students to gain employment in the retail sector and in administration, while others progressed to further education and training. Feedback from participants has been very positive and we are continuously tailoring our courses to meet the training needs of unemployed people in the North Fingal community.

We are currently delivering an Office Administration and ICT Skills course in Mourne Estate Resource Centre, in Skerries, Co. Dublin, with twelve participants attending on a part-time basis. The course began on September 1st 2008 and is being delivered Monday to Friday, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm over a 44 week period. The course includes the following FETAC-accredited modules:

• Computer Literacy
• Data Entry
• Office Procedures
• Personal Effectiveness
• Work Experience
• Manual & Computerised Accounts

In the latter part of the course, participants will also complete examinations for the seven modules required for ECDL certification. Participants will also undertake a four-week block of work experience (as part of the FETAC Work Experience Module) which they will be encouraged to actively seek, with the support and assistance of the Project Co-ordinator and Assistant Project Co-ordinator. At the completion of the course, participants may continue to receive additional assistance in seeking employment by liaising with the Employment Co-ordinator in Co-operation Fingal.
