After many years of dedication and hard work by members of the Rural North Fingal community and the support of several agencies such as Co-operation Fingal, Rural Dublin LEADER Company, Fingal County Council, and others, funding was secured for the rural transport initiative from the Department of Public Enterprise, administered through Pobal Community Services Programme.
This service provides transport for the residents of villages such as Ballyboughal, Naul, Oldtown, Garristown and Balscadden to the larger towns of Balbriggan, Swords and Ashbourne. As well as transport, this service is providing choices and opportunities as without it people cannot avail of services and facilities available to the wider community. It will provide a social link for isolated, elderly or those with disabilities in the community.
The initiative is managed by a voluntary Board of management made up of residents from the areas mentioned above and supported by the named agencies and many others. The service operates from a base in Ballyboughal.
Three fully accessible vehicles are operated by NFTI and services range from daily work, school and shopping services to social services for elderly, youth and social groups.
